The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office participated in Missouri's 2024 Click It or Ticket mobilization conducted May 20 - June 2, 2024.  During the enforcement effort, deputies issued a total of 78 traffic tickets and warnings including:  one (1) seat belt violation, 33 speeding violations; six (6) driving while intoxicated violations; and 38 other traffic violations.  Two felony arrests were also made as a result of the campaign.

"Seat belts are your single best defense in a crash," stated Sheriff Brad A. DeLay.  "Law enforcement will continue to encourage drivers to make a simple, smart choice to always buckle up and Arrive Alive."

Six out of 10 people killed in 2023 Missouri traffic crashes were unbuckled.  Missouri's seat belt use has shown significant improvement in the last five years, but the state remains just below the national average in usage.  Missouri has an 88.87 percent seat belt use while the national average 91.6 percent.  Teens and pick-up truck drivers are among those least likely to buckle up 71.8 percent and 74.4 percent, respectively.
