Charges have been filed in the string of burglaries in Lawrence County on Saturday that led a Lawrence County Deputy to pursue and eventually get hit head on by the suspect who was driving a stolen vehicle from Webster County.

Jason D. Harvey 35 has been charged with two counts of 1st degree assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, Armed Criminal Action, 1st degree burglary and 2nd degree burglary. 

Deputies responded to an alarm call at a residence south of Mt. Vernon.  While at the scene of the 1st burglary, a second burglary in progress was called into 911 stating that a homeowner was at her residence and someone had made forced entry into her home.

The suspect soon left and witness were able to identify the vehicle and a license plate number of the suspect.  While enroute to the second call a deputy spotted the vehicle and attempted to make stop it.  The vehicle failed to yield and at one point drove towards the deputies car nearly striking him.

The deputy continued to pursue the vehicle across rural roads and again the suspect turned the vehicle around and came at the deputy's car striking it head on.  The suspect then exited the vehicle and the deputy gave chase on foot, tackling the suspect.  A short struggle ensued but the deputy was able to take the suspect into custody.  A loaded handgun was also found in the front passenger seat of the vehicle that was readily accessible by the suspect.

The deputy received minor injuries as did the suspect.  Both were treated at the scene and cleared.  The investigation continues and more charges could be pending.
