Lawrence County Sheriff's Office Cracks Down on Impaired Drivers

03/18/2013

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office recently focused on extra enforcement efforts on impaired driving laws March 14-17.

During the effort, law enforcement officers issued a total of seven (7) vitiations that includes three (3) speeding tickets, one (1) driving while intoxicated and one (1) seat belt violation.  Thirty (30) warnings were issued for various other traffic offenses.  One felony arrest was also made.

"Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is never worth the risk of a tragedy.  We're working to keep our roads safer,' said Sheriff Brad DeLay.

Driving while intoxicated remains one of the top causes of fatal car crashes in Missouri.  In 2012, 217 people were killed and 815 seriously injured in accidents that involved at least one impaired driver.  Enforcement efforts like this one help to take impaired drivers off the road and make travel in Missouri safer.  Please remember that the only safe driver is on that is completely sober.
