Lawrence County Sheriff's Office Cracks Down on Impaired Drivers

Missouri roads are safer, thanks to law enforcement cracking down on impaired drivers and working to make sure motorists think twice about traffic safety Aug. 17 - Sept. 3.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office participated in the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over." crackdown conducted Aug. 17 - Sept.3.  During the enforcement effort, deputies issued a total of 85 traffic tickets including: 13 driving while intoxicated; 31 speeding tickets; 41 tickets for other hazardous moving violations.  161 warnings were issued for various other hazardous moving violations..  10 felony arrests ere made as a result of the crackdown.

"When we remove a drunk driver from the roads, we're all safer," stated Sheriff Brad DeLay.  "Law enforcement will continue to encourage drivers to make a simple, smart choice to drive sober."

Driving while intoxicated remains one of the top causes of fatal car crashes in Missouri.  In 2011, 220 people were killed and 902 seriously injured in crashes involving an impaired driver.
