Lawrence County Sheriff's Office Releases Results of Click It or Ticket Enforcement

06/11/2012

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office participated in the national Click It or Ticket mobilization conducted May 21 - June 3.  During the enforcement effort, Deputies issued a total of 23 traffic tickets including:  15 seat belt tickets; one speeding ticket; seven other hazardous moving violations.  One drug arrest and on fugitive was also apprehended as a result of the crackdown.  105 warnings for various other violations were also issued.

"Seat belts are your single best defense in a crash," stated Sheriff Brad DeLay.  "Law Enforcement will continue to encourage drivers to make a simple, smart choice to buckle up and Arrive Alive."

Seven out of 10 people killed in Missouri traffic crashes are unbuckled.  Missouri's seat belt use has remained relatively unchanged in the last six years.  Missouri has 79 percent seatbelt use, which is well below the national average of 85 percent.  Teens and pick-up truck drivers are among those least likely to buckle up at 67 and 66 percent.
